Now let me say up front: I can cook. Nothing spectacular, but I can make standard dinner fare. If you stick a recipe in front of me, I can follow it once and then modify it to my liking at a later date. Right now, since I'm not married, I am very handy with the microwave. It's no fun to cook for myself, so I would much rather heat something up in the microwave and be done with it.
Now that I have that out in the open, I'll set the scene. I'm on break from my class and I go to get a cup of coffee. A young man walks in and has a question about using the microwave. He says, "You look like you know how to cook. Do you think I should leave the lid on this when I heat it?"
I'm sure that it must be somewhat embarrassing to have to ask someone for help with using a microwave. I give him credit for asking. But saying "You look like you know how to cook"... hmm, is that because I'm a little chunky or is it because I'm a woman?
I thought it was rather funny in the way that he put it. I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it, but still. Yet another example of how you probably mean to say one thing and it comes out completely different.

Posted by: Caramus on February 1, 2002 12:30 AMJust a guess here, but I am going to go out on a limb and say that in all probability, that was a pick-up line.
I think I have used that one, in fact.
Posted by: Netsloth on February 1, 2002 10:44 AMWell, I would have gone with that as a possibility, except for a few sentences later he said "my fiance made this for me". Kinda rules out the whole pick up line idea. :)
Posted by: Shadoe on February 1, 2002 11:09 AMNo, No! That just shows his creativeness in using a pick-up line! See, it's easier to get a woman if you already have one. He was using a combination of a pick up line and his inherent unavailability to try and get you to jump in the sack with him.
Genius!
